palmers & nashes, music school, bedford school

The project is the two phase extension and refurbishment of the Preparatory School with two large Victorian Houses on De Pary’s Avenue.  The first phase involved a new entrance link extension, and internal alterations and refurbishment of the Music Department.

The building is within Bedford’s Conservation Area, and as such the scheme was designed to be a respectful addition to the existing Victorian buildings.  The existing ad hoc single storey link between the buildings was demolished and a new open plan communal / entrance area built.

The internal layout of the building was re-configured to convert the building’s inherent residential layout into something more suitable for a Music Department. The building was fully refurbished throughout with a co-ordinated interiors scheme.  This included new windows and specialist joinery, external refurbishment and redecoration, lining of all walls and ceilings, stained hardwood doors and matching shelving along with new floor finishes and external paving.
