memorial hall, bedford school

The Memorial Hall is one of the School's iconic buildings both architecturally and significantly: it was built to commemorate the boys who lost their lives in both world wars.  It’s conversion into the School’s staff area has therefore been a sympathetic one.  mk40 architects’ were commissioned as architects, interior and furniture designers for the project.

Two new kitchens have been introduced into the building.  Their locations have been integrated behind folding and hinged oak doors and worktops which are carefully knitted and integrated into the existing building. Other joinery additions, pigeon holes and archive cabinets are detailed and constructed to also sit harmoniously within the environment.

The furniture was chosen for its timeless classical appeal, whilst also being hardwearing and practical for the everyday requirements of a staff area.
