library, bedford college

Bedford College’s brief for the project was to create a fresh, usable area where the students would be inspired to work.  The current library’s spacial configuration did not lend itself to the modern library requirements.

Mk40 architects have created an open and pleasant environment by manipulating the existing structure: replacing solid walls with glass walls, adjusting the journey into the library and re-arranging the shelving stacks.  We created several different areas for silent working, computer, group and communal work.

A new ventilation system, lighting and general decoration has turned the refurbished library into a light and pleasant environment in which to work.
