jackman's end, woking

The site for this contemporary house is set within an area categorised as ‘semi-rural & arcadian’ and as such required a highly contextual solution.

The restrictive nature in height resulted in the design appearing low from the main road, whilst the house from the rear is semi-sunken with below ground accommodation. The living areas are arranged radially around an atrium allowing views from all aspects.

The contemporary solution has incoporated many sustainable features. Such as air-to-water heating, south facing voltaic panels, self-insulating sunken walling, grey water havesting, a sedum roof, solar glazing maximising natural light, concrete massing and ‘stack effect’ passive ventilation. All materials are to be A+ rated from ‘the green guide to sustainable materials’.
