giraffes, ZSL whipsnade zoo

The extension to the existing giraffe house at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, has provided more animal space and a much improved visitor experience within the heart of the zoo.

The new extension was designed to accommodate the expanding giraffe heard at ZSL.  It was designed as a separate space giving the giraffes a better environment to live in with a sand floor, good natural lighting, improved insulation, better heating, and feeders and water points at the correct level.

Visitor engagement and viewing areas have also been greatly improved.  A new ramped entrance snakes around the existing external paddock, culminating in a viewing platform and display zone within the middle of the giraffes’ external sand paddock.   The ramp then continues further up into the building and an internal viewing area giving an eye-to-eye experience with the giraffes.
