brookes phase 2, bedford college
Phase 2 of this project was the re-location of Bedford College's Hair and Beauty teaching department into the upper two stories of this Victorian Building.
The main fire strategy planning was developed as part of the initial phase on the ground floor.
The existing building was a series of narrow, small spaces, not very conducive to large hair and beauty teaching spaces. As such the maximum amount of space was obtained by opening up the existing structure as much as possible, and converting the existing loft space into administration spaces.
The resulting building is therefore a series of large and functional yet intimate spaces. The floors were planned around student access and activities, and close co-ordination occurred with the heads of departments throughout the design stage.
